Examining Digital Possibilities for Ozwater’20

Following the decision not to proceed with Ozwater in Adelaide this May, the Australian Water Association is currently examining ways to share content already prepared by the water sector for Ozwater’20 digitally. This will include a package of videos, webinars, and podcasts to provide access to and discussions on keynote presentations, accent speakers, technical papers, and workshops.

During a period when we all anticipate an increased amount of working remotely and in isolation, a ‘Digital Ozwater’ will still see the sector benefit from the sharing of the latest water knowledge and expertise and will help keep the sector engaged and connected.

Whilst a physical exhibition will not be possible this year, we are exploring options for a virtual exhibition that may be linked to the digital version of Ozwater. Some of our key Ozwater’20 networking functions including the Water Leaders Forum, the Directors Program, and the Australian Water Awards Gala Dinner may be held later in the year depending on the duration and impacts of COVID-19. Details of these possibilities will be shared after further analysis and discussions with our presenters, sponsors, and members.

Refunds for Exhibitors, Sponsors, and Delegates

With the currently uncertain economic conditions caused by COVID-19, the Association wants to make it clear that funds paid for participating in Ozwater’20 in Adelaide this May will be returned in full. We will contact our sponsors, exhibitors, and registered delegates separately to process refunds. Please bear with us during this process as our staff are now working remotely.

Ozwater’21 to be held in Adelaide

The Association has decided to hold next year’s Ozwater in Adelaide on 4-6 May. This will enable the continued positive engagement of the South Australian water industry and our key SA stakeholders to benefit all delegates at next year’s event. Ozwater’21 will involve a new program of content that will be facilitated in the usual manner commencing in August this year with a call for papers.

Ozwater’20 will not proceed in May due to COVID-19

Date published: Monday 16 March 2020 at 5.00pm AEDT

Following the announcements of the Prime Minister and the Premier of South Australia to ban public gatherings of more than 500 people, the Australian Water Association’s (AWA) annual conference and exhibition, Ozwater’20, will not proceed in Adelaide between 5-7 May. This will comply with the Commonwealth and the South Australian Government announcements based on the latest medical advice to contain the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

As Ozwater attracts more than 5,000 attendees, we have no alternative but to wait for the risks associated with COVID-19 to dissipate. We strongly believe that not proceeding with Ozwater’20 in May is in the best interests of the health and wellbeing of our members, stakeholders, and the South Australian community.

Ozwater’20 has received enormous industry support with 60% of the target delegates already registered, a fully-booked exhibition, and 100% of sponsorship secured.

This event remains the largest water conference and exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere and attracts representatives from more than 20 countries. We are considering a range of alternative strategies for Ozwater’20 including the potential postponement of the event until a later date this year. We will keep our members, sponsors, exhibitors and registered delegates informed as soon as the alternatives have been carefully considered.

We shall be in direct contact with our sponsors, exhibitors, and registered delegates about administrative procedures relating to the event not proceeding in May. We will also continue to update this webpage with all announcements relating to Ozwater'20.
